Concealed Handgun and Renewal Classes
Concealed Handgun License (CHL) Class Information
Classes are held about once a month, usually Saturday, depending on the number of requests. Four is the minimum and eight is the maximum number of students per class.
Initial License Classes are a minimum of 10 hours in length, not including a short lunch break. Each person will be required to fire 50 rounds, with a .32 caliber or larger Handgun, at a silhouette target--20 rounds from 3 yards, 20 rounds from 7 yards, and 10 rounds from 15 yards. (Qualifying with a semi-automatic pistol allows a person to carry either a semi-automatic pistol or a revolver, but one who qualifies with a revolver is only allowed to carry a revolver. For that reason, I recommend that each person use a semi-automatic to qualify.) It is not necessary to own your pistol, it can be borrowed.
The required fingerprints, passport photos, and notary public service are available the same day.
The cost for a class is $70. The required fingerprints, passport photos, and notary public service are an additional $15, if desired.
The cost of the initial CHL is $140 for the first 4 years (for those 60 years old or older the fee is $70.) At this time, initial applications take about 90 days to be processed.
Renewals are for 5 years, and the fee is half that of the initial license. At this time, renewals take about 80 days to process. Renewal Classes are a minimum of 4 hours in length.
